The Kooch-i-ching Way of Camping

Kooch-i-ching offers three types of trips: canoeing, backpacking and climbing. But the heart of the wilderness quest at Kooch-i-ching is canoe travel through Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Travel that follows the trails of the voyageurs and fur-traders. Travel that blazes new trails of its own.

A Kooch-i-ching canoe trip is the anticipation of departure. It is a final check: Do we have it all—food, equipment, a toothbrush, a rain jacket? It is sliding the canoes into the water, loading the wannigans and Duluth Packs, a wave to the bus driver or boat pilot, then the rhythmic dip of paddles.

PADDLE

Be Brave — Courage is the noblest of all attainments.

A Kooch-i-ching canoe trip is hours of paddling and singing and fun with a fair breeze following. It is hours of straining backs and arms when the headwinds howl. It is swimming, leaping from cliffs, running rapids, hoisting sail to catch a tailwind.

PORTAGE

BE STRONG — UNDERSTAND AND RESPECT YOUR BODY. IT IS THE TEMPLE OF THE SPIRIT.

A Kooch-i-ching canoe trip is maps to read, winds to study, clouds to watch and trails to folllow. It is loons dancing and laughing in the moonlight; a moose crashing through the underbrush; thunder, lightning and rain. It is an easy portage through the pine woods, and a struggle through a cedar swamp.

CAMP

BE HELPFUL — DO YOUR SHARE OF THE WORK.

A Kooch-i-ching canoe trip is searching for campsites, building fireplaces, cooking, baking and eating. It is fresh walleye fillets for dinner, glorious sunsets, misty sunrises, hot days, cold days and, in the end, the pride of having met and mastered countless challenges.
